Things from the end of the internet

My attempts at journaling at my main site usually failed. Usually got too lazy to write new entries in my pretty, but usually annoying to edit layouts, lack of proper but simple CMS made it harder. Tried to install ancient ones like b2 or Greymatter, but both failed. Trying to install anything that old while your site runs on newest versions of everyting was kinda pointless, though taking apart these early blogging software which paved way for omnipresent WordPress was pretty fun.

While ago I thought about blogger again, since dcb tried it a while ago (though later moved to Livejournal) and decided to give it a shot again. It was my most used CMS for most of my web presence, I still remember toying with templates as kid and going to learn CSS on these RP blogs with overdesigned templates (just look at those mad photoshop skills!) and I liked it. At some point I’ve tried to play with classic templates, but after all I dumped all of this and forgot about putting my creations on web for a good while.

I had a time of dumb depression and shit like “wish I was born before” and I’ve ended browsing lot of ancient blogs, digging into history of Blogger and DiaryLand, collecting some of them with truly fun layouts that were embodient of most hip web design trends for cool people. Even stumbling on some vintage blogger installs made me discover that in fact pages generated by it always were just XHTML with some specific bits needed to make it work.

So recently I started to convert my old static journal themes to blogger and discovered some things (which are perfect material for longer blog post) but in the end I created an entirely new theme. Which unblocked me and web design stuff just came back to me after a long break, it truly feels good.

After this little ramble I hope to dump random links and stuff, maybe even single random photos that don’t deserve being on a photo a day, just talk about some noteable events (rare) in my life. But it feels good to be back.

How come I'm only just learning about this? I guess using old blog services is the hot new trend among the kids… (I'm still trying to get good and busy with the Scratchpad!)
