A first mixtape after long overdue.

There actually was one I did before but never posted it. This was around the time when both Cammy and dcb did theirs, I think. Maybe I was too dissatisfied with it and thought these tracks don’t really fit together and it was no point trying to make them flow somewhat nicely. Forgot about it, possibly deleted at this point but recently I tried again.

I had many ideas for mixtapes, mostly to make some based on some mood/vibe and sort of soundtracks for fictional movies, but I settled on year based mixtapes for now. Picked a year, put my favourite tracks from albums I listened to from that year and played with order a bit before deciding on final one.

Decided on 1999, honestly it might be my favourite year in music (and my current music library has the most albums from 1999) and it just in general had lot of nice stuff. Pre-millennium depression and tension against widespread optimism about future. Lot of fun media (Spaced!), all of these magazines, cool graphic design and other shit that defined what was cool for xoomers with hip occupations. I’ve tried to capture what I think turn of the millennium might feel like, I always got kinda nocturnal vibe about this little transitional period.

Got here a good mix of genres, mainly some more breakbeat-y stuff and some are really house-y, with some generally undefined electronica/downtempo and few tracks that might feel random. Few were posted here in my monthly listening posts before, but some are favourites I didn’t talk about (yet). It’s really mixed bag but after few listens it turned to be a pretty much a fun one with decent balance of more slower, moody tracks and attention-grabbing ones.

Up for downloads, all later mixtapes will be in same directory. Still got a page for them I wanted to use, so it might finally be finished with little separate pages (maybe with special themed layouts?) when more of mixtapes will happen.
